Happy Monday to you to Damon happy to be here Great. Thanks for having me.
Curt Anderson 1:25
Katie and how like this is like I mean that like to bring in all the manufacturing rockstars all the third Julie, let’s dive right in cover so much that I want to chat about with you. You are doing amazing, incredible work and already knows that. But let’s just dig in. I want to kick things off with Oh, when you were a young pup who was your was your hero as a young gal grow?
Julie Basello 1:49
Well, first off, I’m actually not from New Jersey originally from New York originally. The New York City to me, I mean, I’m from Queens, so I’m one of the five most people have that accent but I grew up in the same town that friend you know Fran Drescher is absolutely magic I sounded like that that would be
Julie Basello 2:17
in it so I’m working on it I need to get a train Oh, this is the voice God gave me so how about this trouble? You asked me Thanks. Um, you asked me about my hair. I would say when I my heroes were my mother and father they were my best example of what was going to be in the world at from a really young age and you know develop my work ethic my dad is a retired he worked in retail and I’ve been retail in life so yeah, that was be my heroes. My mom and dad.
Curt Anderson 2:43
That answer mom and dad’s name. Could you please smother?
Julie Basello 2:46
It was Eleanor she’s 13 and my dad is Ron alive and kicking 84 years old.
Curt Anderson 2:52
Nice. We send our thought and what uh, what don’t send Ron our best Ron. Ron did amazing job. I’m a girl and Damon network, we’re probably you are a true inspiration. Again, so your superpowers are really rocking it with marketing inventory. We’re going to take a deep dive and manifest amazing wonderful Thursdays. But just share a little bit about like a pharmacy, kind of Roman retailer superpowers kind of fall into and you’ve got your
Julie Basello 3:17
Well it’s interesting, you know, I manager and I own two of my own best started working for Radwell and I kind of fell
Curt Anderson 5:00
Isn’t it because one of my businesses that I have a studio and you know, someone asked me to make some changes job wise and the I started in was a part time Mark and I segwayed that and of the eight years I’ve been with the company into photography videography, or blog and all of social media, I am just one of those people that you put me in a role you put me in a situation and I can create that needs to be created to fill the void and we needed a multimedia strategy and we needed to you know, just on that and I kind of naturally said you know, took it and ran with it. So hit up there, but I have an extensive back I didn’t necessarily start out that Alright, so let’s backtrack a little bit let’s go back to your early stages in your career and I love that you know with your title multimedia manager, I absolutely photographer vlogger star you know, things that you bring into the table for you on your own your own media company. You know, again like what inspires you when How do you How did you go in that direction seeing when I was doing for Radwell and there’s a lot of advice so I Why couldn’t I turn the you know, multiple into a separate business on its own and help those people with
Julie Basello 6:06
advice they have and get paid? Like kind of as you know so that’s why I created a cast that I edit I edit podcast I create video marketing and people I do photography sessions did podcasts for people or you know a primary host and help with social media content for them kind of come I’ve learned some skills but they kind of come naturally to upon what comes naturally and then I’ve got something that I can do on the side because you know extra money on the side and I don’t want to work I’d rather do this so you can do what you’re best at and that you’re bringing value to folks with the side hustle you’re dead well David I want to share a few things that really again like look at this crowd like the Happy Monday to everybody
Curt Anderson 6:46
out there please if you’re not already connect with Julie send her some love and connection but a few things about exceptional creative smart and Julie we’re going to talk quite a bit above your passion of building k plus great person I favorite humble this is this is read and Julie listen in a trust with simplicity and kind of outside the box so hey Claus for
Julie Basello 7:13
the Thursday Twitter group and our folks here that on on our we’ve got Callie rose her Polly AZ job on Friday back you guys I listened to awesome job so thank you we’re just as many folks here I just have pet integrity so it’s over I thought Mom and Dad rather than Eleanor foundation I want to I want to talk a little bit forget to Radwell just kind of like what Lynn for marketing your passion how you become sort of versed with blogging, Gil like to get so diverse with this. I just things that I needed because I ran a retail Art Gallery right as social media was become. And, and blogging, we own your own business as you both know. And social media was new, so I needed to figure it out so that I could because back then everything was free for you to promote. And I did it in a really good skilled way said what started my journey and for my own business for God. I had my own business for 1213 years to different business. I decided to segue that to a career we had a foundation
Curt Anderson 8:11
of how to do these things marketing purposes and not out of it. I want to make it very clear. I am not educated. I am school of hard knocks run your own business and try to feed your kid. That’s that’s where I am.
Julie Basello 8:22
Well, I absolutely love that and I love to shout out to you on creativity. Your own art gallery Um, that is just, you know, at a young age that you know, you’re just as a creative
Curt Anderson 10:05
space, you know, and then to manufacturing, as you’ve talked to a couple of times, you again, since you were kind of very creative when you think manufacturing, not necessarily the most creative or box thinkers, what attracted you specifically, but you know, what attracted you you know what, I think I’m going to this is a good fit for me. What was that transition like for you? I think of a steady paycheck when you’ve gone uniqueness and what kind of like hand to mouth all the tender Radwell was, was very known in the community where the headquarters, a big part of the key, the president, owner of the company, big on community, very big those in the community, who are less forts, you know, when rival is successful, they share with others. So I knew of the company thing that attached to photography uestions, I was all about it. So I have to kind of sation, and you know, this life change requires that I need to get a job. So see what happens. That’s really what it was more than anything. Now manufacturing itself,
Julie Basello 10:56
not going anywhere. You know, one thing you factoring is it’s not going anywhere it has, it’s going to be here for the long term, I want to work in an industry where I have job security, because the industry will, I’d say just about any use so so that’s how I viewed it was, you know, stable industry could you to and come up with something that’s different than other that in my head, I’ll just come work and I did. I have for eight years. In fun, but let’s say 14 So you know, life changes will bring your superpowers to Radwell. Because it was like it wasn’t like, you know, man, this is a totally different list. You know, where you embrace talk about there was no resistance, my my end the company itself is great. And my boss very much a non micromanager lets you do your superpowers, as you’d be you and function that way or is you know, the was like it was hard. I mean, I had gone from the freedom of owning my own photography. And so I had the retail I ran the photography studio years before I did rat, oh, the transition from that to having to go to a job every day that was gonna lie
Curt Anderson 12:00
was really hard being the boss and now I had to like aspirin and weird things that I hadn’t done. And yet, as far as the actual industry goes, it was like any enemy, any topic, any, I can turn it around and create content doesn’t have to be something I necessarily know figure it out, I’ll learn. And let’s face it, things like the beauty and fabric easy when it comes to creating content. It’s cool, it’s visually pleasing.
Julie Basello 12:23
We’ll set and turn. And that’s a challenge. And I’ve
Curt Anderson 12:26
had fun with it for eight years. That’s awesome. Go I need to hear you talk about fashions. I would be like a manufacturing, manufacturing, not good content for you to talk about for free cuz it’s interesting, your mindset, it’s all about mindset. But in terms of like the, you know, always visually pleasing, right? Social media and creating content does need to be visually attention grabbing because it’s trying to grab people’s attention need to stop them. Do you know how hard that
Julie Basello 12:56
is? People mid scroll in this day and age by excessive amounts of content. So that’s what I meant, you know, you can take a really attractive female and really nice clothing and that’s what’s gonna stop the scroll dirty maybe. I had weird things that had made people stop and say what is rad, right? As if you’re, you know, we really cannot about manufacturing so you know if you’re in and boy, I have a problem needs those little rusty screws the most beautiful pit
Curt Anderson 15:02
You can talk to women We can speak and if you will, right? It’s a beautiful thing on a planet. Boy Julie you had like a champ bestie on the planets. Again we’ve got Polly Danby the chatbox is just on fire Yeah, I’m going to I’m going off script team this again because you have so many modes that you bring to the table blogging photography video content when you do have when some when something
Julie Basello 15:28
comes across your plate I think the nice to diverse you can look at something and say written content or this is going to be good for photography are out of the box thinkers like you are have that creativity giveaway Can you give us an what’s a tip or strategy and when do I go content when alright so the first thing in all of no matter what you’re
Curt Anderson 15:47
going to do you need to do places from who you speaking to and how authentic can you be with whatever
Julie Basello 15:53
those are the two most important content the rest of it you can I can teach you things you have first Who are you speaking to? Can you be I would say is anything can be any which sounds funny, right? Like any type of content can
Curt Anderson 16:06
be so you said well how do you know something should
Unknown Speaker 16:08
be a video podcast or should be anything categories that I repurposing content. So if I start out and I create a video can be
Curt Anderson 16:17
turned into reels and shorts for nd can turn into image corn into a meme, it can turn into a blog post episode one video, one video all those things, and one actual video. A blog could turn in with graphics ad it could turn into amps could turn into a podcast episode, if you’re just doing a narrative app into anything. Could be a font could be anything at all. So if you can be authentic and you can,
Julie Basello 16:42
it doesn’t have to fit in doesn’t have to be a video doesn’t have to be a
Curt Anderson 16:45
photo. It could be anything. But he already knows somebody’s already reading my mind. Moment of silence or Damon’s what we’re seeing here, who is how authentic can you be from? Like right there. Right. Katie’s dropping the note here, David Chrysler’s man like
Julie Basello 17:08
every to be here, thank you for the support. It’s appreciate it. We know how busy everybody is last week, we know you guys are out there crushing it. So thanks with us. And again, who doesn’t want to explain to a Jew? Let’s just let’s let’s see how authentically right like dropped the mic to it. So let’s say then we’re talking to D. Okay. And you said that you’re too rad Bo. I talked about you said that your owner community we were talking to have been a lot about the value of community amazing, incredible community here with us to the group talk about Radwell Well, it’s
Curt Anderson 17:42
give us some history and some background at Red pride well
Julie Basello 17:45
is an addition and manufacturing support services to keep manufacturers so
Curt Anderson 17:49
you name the service and we provide it and we don’t just provide us as an accompany that dabbles in a bunch of we do every service well, like top of the industry. Well, if you’ve not read about the Red Eye chat I encourage every website or listen to episode one of Radwell automation nation podcast, the Radwell store and Brian Radwell story is an incredible one and it’s told I asked you guys to to listen to it or go read it’s amazing. He’s overcome it to turn this company into so and you know we started out i three people in the company and one of them still Radwell one of them still works here in the NGO, one of the heads of engineering he’s been here’s right and
Julie Basello 20:03
It’s it’s really, it’s all about providing services that first going, and we do we hit it from all angles from product, everything. So it’s a really interesting business model located anywhere. Nice piece is our thing. Okay, and so that’s delivering high level of value to our ears, keeping our manufacturers on him. That’s what a great mission that is. You bet. Talk a little bit when you community.
Curt Anderson 20:27
Okay, how do you know Fulcher would you know talk a little bit we’re not at Red Bull. He just believes in giving me I think because he’s been fortunate. Arden it has paid off for him in his in the company that he believes in,
Julie Basello 20:39
you know, he he doesn’t just
Curt Anderson 20:40
talk when I I don’t I don’t know if about there were those that popped up in New Jersey years ago, a couple of years ago, maybe
Julie Basello 20:47
last year. It’s like around this time last year. There were those that like leveled some communities in New Jersey. One of the people that loss was one of my stepdaughters he donated money to her GoFundMe and like you know that was and he didn’t that he donated to the company donated money to a few other
Curt Anderson 21:03
people who are in the same was so I was so like grateful that’s the type of giving back that he done all scale it could be to you know, wareness organization it could be any just depends on the mission and what it is how well we’re doing at that moment in time no spirit so man is that that moment I’m what great served from the time Radwell that’s just
Julie Basello 21:21
awesome to hear. Again. I want to give a shout out our crisis was great advice, Julie. I love this one from I Love you too. Nicole. Wow. Nice shout out so amazing. And so this is just we shouldn’t go in here as a man slide in. Alright, so we’re telling you that you’ve done an amazing job with the Twitter group we’re going to definitely talk about now our dear mutual friend Jersey Boys before we went live of course we can delete but Gleaner and our dear friend moment Jersey me Extension Partnership he’s awesome taking Julie Did you recently winning an award? I did. Enterprise enterprising woman award Yeah. A NJ was the organization that get and Mike Womack nominee that was one of the ones to watch to with the whole thing blew me away. It was so and so appreciative. And so why that whole experience? I saved it on my computer. So when I had that nice chair that was even myself because Yeah, well, that it’s not about
Curt Anderson 22:17
that so much is the connection that was made with with my fact that he thought highly enough of me but you know, spoke volumes about him, Son and how the connection is that really what it’s about for me, you know, really a great experience. Every day we have a visitor bring the dog and a dog is it. I love dogs. Oh, I am. I am my office today. I haven’t thought puppy. So, Tim, but I do love dogs too. Yeah. All right. So with the New Jersey manufacturing center theme, we do a
Julie Basello 22:45
lot of promoting for the MEP,
Curt Anderson 22:47
and Mike is just such a program. And just for US manufacturing kind of Thursday chat group I know most if you go to the Twitter chat group or Mac you want to like if he’d submitted Julie for like see she said I think it’s a CR and it was just absolutely that’s her Mike. Mike always have a big heart. About the Twitter,
Julie Basello 23:10
USA maniac group on Thursdays Okay, our friends here are partly for folks that are not familiar with the Twitter live. So let’s lay back for a second after maybe an entrepreneur just kind of listening. We may Julie Did you say Dude, why would I get on Twitter for business person? I’m
gonna manufacture The amazing incredible relation that you’ve made on this Twitter group please enough how the connection and manufacturing our group have benefited
Curt Anderson 25:11
both my my per line and my in person community for Radwell it’s an amazing everyone helps everyone else and learn something new every chat and recap so I don’t get to participate as much but I’m still seeing all the information actions and being able to
Julie Basello 25:27
connect with other people and it’s not just names on a screen when you’re on Twitter there is real people sitting behind their people that can really help you answer your career the networking can things help you make different connections with your business it’s just a really I can’t stress enough how lucky I am to be How did how did the tutor group even come on Dan bigger bang pushing pushing you know the guy who
Curt Anderson 25:47
connects everyone that’s probably every person out the six degrees of absolutely gonna start saying that six degrees of dance I am minutes I want to you know like the moment that
Julie Basello 26:02
was a few minutes ago saying hey, that was a well deserved
Curt Anderson 26:06
team and we got a little lastly so I want to I want to so yeah so the founders Wagman was part of the three stages for Stan bigger Ruby so amazing or and said hey, let’s start a little tweak and we’re gonna put it out there and it’s just acids been amazing, wonderful relationships. I’ve been a whole host coming up next
Julie Basello 26:30
I co hosted Welker Inc. Awesome. She and I co hosted let’s talk about Okay, so like either a or out there like okay, I hear what you’re saying again, I’m just trying to put myself in the shoes of somebody that has never been on the Thursday program following just share a little bit about like what can people expect if they were to join this group on a Thursday and I think you said it fast it’s our on the internet it moves fast it definitely moves fast if you do some research about our chats beforehand and then you just until you get comfortable and then you’d the whole the whole chat itself nothing wrong with lurking while you get comfortable though actually was in the background just kind of son and how things worked and then when I felt comfortable I jumped in Dan was Dan and I go back a few years at this point he’s like my original contact is so many people so you know bigger for sure. Absolutely. It’s like how you
Curt Anderson 27:18
know what is mere fact listen to chatbot like why don’t you do the heart and the chat bots or like if you’ve had friends business any did through and through? Drop that in the chat box not
Julie Basello 27:28
everyone has
Curt Anderson 27:31
John McLean I think that it should be again I’m posting your comment because I don’t agree with it. I love co hosting with you Julie. I summer mind to Whitney mine. What do you need to have you on the program so that’s way overdue. So Julie lock about the recap. You do blowing
Julie Basello 27:48
I don’t know how you do it. I’m humbled when I read those. I have a bit of a slacker this summer on Thursdays I’ve been on as much but I can always go back and I can who was there who said what you knocked that out of the park every week. Any good content creation planning. I plan on the front end so on the back end when the chat is hand copy paste Interjet do all of my little tweaks. But I’ve already planned an outline a week’s the that’s the little secret sauce. The recaps coming out so quick. I’m really you know, quick, quick type of soup. But for the most part it’s all about it’s just about paying attention as
Curt Anderson 28:21
the chats going to paid a lot because I’m copying things making sure I get going
Julie Basello 28:25
back and you know, tweaking it and turning right
Curt Anderson 30:04
Perfect okay so when you question on this. So okay, like now you’ve really piqued my curious from the topics like I’ve learned, like I tried to be Mr. E commerce guy safety, I’ve learned about Lean, amazing culture, like, what am I Sorry, I’m sure some of the topics, some of the mind blowing hosts as well, pretty much you’ve covered it, we have a show coming up, we just did something being I mean, you name the top manufacturing, and it’s
Unknown Speaker 30:29
been covered, or it will have been covered a few times by different people who have the table. So just you just think of that affects your life as a manufacturer has been covered, and will be covered. Okay, and then let’s slide into this and go in that Twitter chat group, take the relationship, go to LinkedIn, but now you go from Twitter, you could go to link now make that connection on LinkedIn and phone calls, Zoom call a number of folks in person talk about that online Twitter to these relationships where you have cold dialing, saying Julie, I love you, you know what you reach out and make, like I try to have I’m have a lot of time to sit and go all week. Unfortunately, I wish I had more time is important to me. But I don’t say allocate an hour or two hours where I schedule those calls. And Bill, even if it’s on a screen, you’re still meeting the person, you’re still in tray. And that’s important. That’s how I’ve segue to actual clips with many people. I think that’s important thing is supporting other people’s content should get in front of people like I do not content is a one why’s content active exercise. So if you’re free to be interacting with other people’s created content, that has to be it’s a certainly be be closed, cut round and round. So that because now like Kurt, you and I said, but we were with each other now, and how do we get to do that others content quite a bit. And I think important piece of, you know, well as marketers as people as manufacturers. Moment of silence. And another one we had to do you know that one was for you, my friend getting of hunting relationships, and I just, you know, one exercise, it is not a exercise I couldn’t love again, like you know, I know we have a lot of raving fans that are that are actively commenting and doing exactly as you’re preaching right now. We are new to LinkedIn, you know, being you know, hey, let’s hear on her first. Is this your first LinkedIn lives? Yeah, so hey, my first one out of her comfort zone came on LinkedIn last this was this was new to us. So there might have just hesitant mmm, your first time on LinkedIn putting out that first post once people got hit submit and you’re like, Oh, no. Right? Being mindful to those folks that are due. And just think about what Julie just a passive exercise. If you’re at a networking event in person and worried about ourselves or just talking about ourselves. Nobody wants to hang out with you. Nobody wants to be that you say that, Kurt because one of the things that about content creation is this thing called the 411 rule, where pieces of content only one of them can be a selling everything else has to be relevant, valuable content. It can be it can be you know, it can’t be about you because no one wants to be that person at the networking event blabbing about themselves and not something about somebody else. So interesting. You say that that’s a big basis of how I create too. And I have to say my friend, I’ve watched you, you know, look what you’ve done from amazing doing whatsoever where you bought into LinkedIn and now like I know you’re but you are just really high in your posts and bases, messages, anything that you want to be talking about? You great. I love your content you’d like to You’re ready he’s okay We’ll just see this just start doing it or post whatever just yeah so he so minus people thank you they’re just post yeah good and you think is valuable I get my post today add value to others there’s a little and I was thinking about it last week it was like everything else kind of works out it does work it really does. And if we tell him for my dear friend Julie be as authentic as you can be authentic be as authentic definitely you’re gonna be that I just summed it up we could have a half an hour right? Payment I’m gonna teach authentic as you’re going to be hashtag Julie right send me really let’s I want to be mindful of your time to express my gratitude for you sharing just a couple last future for yourself at red ball like these that you feel like really working somewhere else. Any words of advice for folks as we wind down here I am actually really engagement focusing on engagement social media media editor who works with I want to teach her better ways to engage you know, to get people engaged. That’s a big one. Also the base strategy we’ve focused on we focused on providing value those two things are the big focus right look you know what I hate to do this I have to use my curiosity base what any, not any secret sauce but you know for our folks here in the crowd that are like hey, it’s great that I’m posting I feel tenant boy we have we need to talk a little bit what’s something that you’re excited I am I have not been focused in that for very long because for the longest time I was the only one doing everything. So now that I have a team are different, but I am not an expert in that area and I’m going to say that I am still researching and won’t be sure to share it we will not a gatekeeper at all I’m definitely someone who’ll share this with this community as you know and that’s Damon like when you started your group when on eggs your way when COVID It was just like everybody was had each other’s backs. And we you know, it’s the rise. We just it’s really like in Dan bigger another modest guy doesn’t like an accolades, accolades whatsoever all the time. Anyway, anybody that works as has now been bigger does, right you guys, if you have any tips, strategies, advice that I’d love to hear from Julie would love to hear him. Yes, absolutely. All they’re trying to do better be better. Julie, as you think is you’re building that community. What’s I will close it on this. I do have one more. You’re hitting 20 And you have another social media platform or another online analogy that you’re pushing Facebook, we are on Instagram. All of those communities have built up to over 100,000 audience right now. And we yeah, we also a Pinterest Believe it or not, right people laughed at me when I was what does a manufacturing company need to do on Pinterest? Well, we get some accounts in terms of input so that’s okay with me. I’m good with that. And of course we’re growing and a YouTube though. Our YouTube channel is older than our Tik Tok presence, but, you know, we we steadily put so there’s a lot out there that and also in terms of the engagement thing, step that I’m taking. I don’t like it. The first step that I’m taking is I’m really digging, digging, digging into analytics, right, what’s connecting, not just not really, really digging into the types of content and who is connecting with it and where they’re connecting to it. So that for me And you’re right on my record in my notes that was number three question I promise here was the lady we on to all circumstances here fine for you the day. We talked about Ron and Eleanor’s, as a young girl growing up in Queens. Today you’re about the Delaware River Philadelphia and all sorts of exciting things. We might talk about Philly cheese steaks when we get on. But my last question for you is Who inspires you today? What is your inspiration today? My inspiration stories. I know you mentioned briefly that I had my podcast and stories in your post. It’s about telling stories about other people because they need to be used in service of others. So our videographer, if you’re a skilled photographer, if you’re a podcaster if you’re a blogger, if you handle social media stories, you need to be able to take your talents and use them and so people stories and stories of businesses and so on inspires me the most. It’s not about me, it’s about other people. Oh wait, we’re good. Look at that time. biglietto He’s incredible John and how about this? Lazy you know what I Daymond I use our dear friend otter we do a transcription that’s cool. You can go to b2b town we are so lucky ran out of things but not only this, this interview will be posted live and in the next 24 hours with a full transcript miss you button and pitch Julie over and over again or voice voices just silk isn’t it? Diane buyer Diane we’d love you. This was wonderful. Thanks Diane and John was indeed because the silence here today John so thank you to you too. You too are amazing.
